The Federation of Metro Tenants' Associations (FMTA) is a non-profit organization that advocates for better rights for tenants. Founded in 1974, it is the oldest and largest Tenant Federation in Canada. The FMTA is comprised of affiliated Tenant Associations and individual members. We have over 3,000 members and continue to grow.
We are seeking new Board members to fill current vacancies and help guide our work. Ideal candidates possess a deep understanding of issues facing tenants, a passion for social justice, a commitment to grassroots organizing, and have the skills and expertise to join a working Board.
In order to join the Board, you must be a member in good standing.
Key Responsibilities
● Provide strategic leadership for FMTA's advocacy and campaigns.
● Attend monthly Board meetings.
● Active participation in Board projects and on committees.
● Support the FMTA's mandate of advocating for better rights for tenants.
● Working collaboratively with Board members and staff.
● A commitment to anti-racism and anti-oppression.
Desired Qualifications
● Proven leadership in tenant advocacy, community organizing, or related fields.
● Strong understanding of tenants’ rights and relevant legislation.
● Knowledge of issues facing tenants in the GTA.
● Excellent communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills.
● Experience and skills in one or more of the following areas:
- Human resources and labor relations
- Governance and policy development
- Financial administration and accounting
- Fundraising
- Community engagement and stakeholder relations
- Legal expertise
- Communications
