Join Toronto Tenants Unite! Message Board: Have your voice heard and see what other tenants are saying! |
All of our letters and news releases for 2001 FMTA Fights at Energy Board for Low Income Consumers, Ongoing The FMTA is a member of the Vulnerable Energy Consumers Coalition. This is a coalition of senior citizen organizations and other low income groups, affiliated with the Public Interest Advocacy Centre in Ottawa. Our interest is to protect the interests of low income consumers, most of whom are tenants. As a member of this coalition, the FMTA is an intervenor before the Ontario Energy Board. This means we are fighting for lower energy costs. Some tenants pay their utility bills directly, while most tenants pay through their rent. As always, we are working for you and our ability to link with this coalition means that we have a voice in these important regulatory matters. City of Toronto Rental Housing Forum, November 26th, 2001 The Federation sent out thousands of flyers for this event, and our volunteers made over 200 phone calls encouraging people to attend. We like to think we played a big part in achieving the overflow turn out: estimated between 500-700 people. Outreach Team Co-ordinator Dan McIntyre spoke at the event, as did several Federation board members and volunteers. The event got great coverage in the Toronto Star, and several other media outlets. We are now anxiously awaiting the City's report on the event, as are the many hundreds of tenants who added their names to the mailing list. |
